Back in June, 1969, I took an oath, twice! The first time while standing on the Virginia Tech drillfield in my Corps of Cadets uniform with several hundred fellow cadets who were being commissioned as offices in the military branches that day. General William Westmoreland, the Army Chief of Staff (an my mother's boss at the Pentagon, by the way!) led us through the oath, The second time, the official time, the oath was given by the AFROTC Commander in his office in Lane Hall on the "Upper Quad" where our dorms were.

The Officer's Oath

I Roie Black, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
::
that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;
::
that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion;
::
and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.
So help me God.
